Wednesday of 4th Week of Easter A

Light vs Darkness

Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd. He knows his sheep, and his sheep know him. He is the Good Shepherd who came into the world as light so that everyone who believes in him might not remain in darkness as it’s reported in today’s Gospel. So, the Good Shepherd will lead his sheep in the light and not in darkness. The difference between the light and the darkness is that we will not stumble when we walk in the light. When we allow the light of Christ to shine on our way, we will not stumble in darkness and in sins. So, do we allow the light of Christ shine on our way in this walk of life?

The master once asked his disciples, how do we know that the day has come and the night has vanished? One said that when we can differentiate between a sheep and a cow from a distance, then we know it is the day has come and the night has vanished. Another said that when we can differentiate between the oak tree and the lemon tree. Still other said that when we can differentiate the car from the van, it is the day has come and the night has vanished. Finally, the master responded, the moment that separated the day time and the night time is when we see a person next to us as a brother or a sister and not a stranger. Through the light of Christ that helps us to recognize that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ.

Have you ever ignored the presence of others in our lives? In your family, have you ever ignored the presence of anyone in your family that you don’t want to talk and you don’t care what’s going in his life or her life? Have you ever pretended not knowing the needs of others? Have you ever tried to avoid talking to someone you don’t like or even hate it? What is it so difficult to be present to others, especially to our loved one(s) at home? Only darkness can hide us from others, are you living in darkness or in light? Have you ever thought to allow Christ to be the light to shine on your way? Decision is yours.
