Thursday of 32nd Week of Ordinary

The Kingdom of God Is Within

In today’s Gospel, asked by the Pharisees when the Kingdom of God would come, Jesus said in reply, “The coming of the Kingdom of God cannot be observed, and no one will announce 'Look, here it is,' or, 'There it is.' For behold, the Kingdom of God is among you.” Pharisees were the ones who studied the laws and understood the laws, and their question was legitimate. However, their question was observed under the physical world, not under the realm of faith. This faith might not be observed, but it is to live it rather. So, how would we live the faith and not observe it?

Story told that a beggar once asked an artist to draw a picture of him. The artist carefully drew a man handsome and intelligent. The beggar looked at the picture and refused that was him, but the artist said that was him. The beggar said that by looking at the picture, any one could say that it’s not him, from his clothes, to his hair, his face, and all his limbs, there’s nothing looked like him. The artist then said that he drew the beggar from what was inside of him, not what was outside of him.

The kingdom of God is within each and every one of us. Have we taken time to take care of that kingdom or we just paid attention to what is not the kingdom of God? So, how would we observe the kingdom of God within us if it’s not to pay attention to what’s inside us? The cat might have a cat face from the physical appearance, but through the mirror, the cat might have a lion face. Christ’s teaching and the Church’s teaching are our mirror to help us see the kingdom of God is within us. What are you and I waiting for?
