Jesus Reveals the Father’s Plan

Beginning of today’s Gospel reading for daily Mass, the Church begins to use the writing of Saint Luke. In today’s Gospel, Jesus went into the Synagogue just like any other young men on the Sabbath. The beginning of his ministry to his own native land of Galilee. He read the Scripture passage and preached the words of God, but they all asked, “Is this not the son of Joseph?” To them, Jesus replied, “Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place.” Many people filled with fury on the teaching of Jesus, and they rose up and drove him out of the town. They tried to hurl him down headlong to the brow of the hill, but he passed through the midst of them and went away.

Why did they react the way they reacted towards Jesus? While they were waiting for the Messiah, here came the son of Joseph, the carpenter that they all knew. As a son of a carpenter, he came to teach them: The Pharisees, the Scribes and the Levi. They were the ones who knew the laws, understood the laws and taught the laws. How could they accept that Jesus, a son of a carpenter, and his teaching as if he came from God?

From the Lord’s Ten Commandments to the teaching of the Scriptures and finally the passion, the death, and the resurrection of Jesus, the Son of God, and God himself, Jesus really redirects our attention to focus on his ultimate love, the love that revealed on the cross where he was hung upon. How would we be an example for others as we profess ourselves as Christians, the followers of Christ? As Jesus revealed his Father’s place on the Cross for the sake of our salvation, how would we reveal God to others when we profess ourselves as Christians, the followers of Christ?
